On Sunday, February 19 a reception will be held celebrating the 20th anniversary of Pastor Dave Eikenberry's ministry at First Presbyterian Church of Waukegan. Worship at 9:30 precedes the festivities at the church, located at 122 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., just north of City Hall.
The service that morning will feature hymns from Eikenberry's installation service 20 years ago. The Philharmonic Orchestra which he co-founded with Music Director Dr. Elizabeth Naegele will also perform that morning.
The search committee which interviewed Eikenberry indicated they wanted a pastor who was "involved in the community". He utilizes his musical talents in that regard by performing with both the Waukegan Symphony Orchestra and the Waukegan Municipal Band among his other pursuits. Eikenberry is also a doctoral student at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.
Eikenberry's wife of 27 years, Kathleen, has also served the community having dedicated eight years as Color Guard Director at Waukegan High School. For 13 years she has worked tutoring home bound students for the Waukegan school district.
Eikenberry has been supportive of the church elders decision to join The Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
Last month at the congregation's annual meeting, Pastor Eikenberry was presented with a Thomas Kinkade counted cross-stitch picture prepared by deacon Kathy Walter. The picture will be on display at the reception.
