The First Presbyterian Church of Waukegan is grateful
for the opportunity to contribute prayerfully and financially to
the ongoing work of five missionaries, the Reverend Edward Bakaitvako
Muhima and the Reverend Micah Rwothumio of Uganda, Jim Samland of
Hungary.
The
Reverend Edward Bakaitvako Muhima first served
our church by working as a leader of our TUXIS youth
group while he was a student at Trinity
Evangelical Divinity School in the late 1970's. A
native of Uganda, Pastor Edward works with the African
Evangelistic Enterprise, leading mission trips to
spread the gospel in Uganda. His recent work has included
participating
in the Uganda All-Clergy Conference and in the Uganda
National Youth Conference. In his letters, Pastor Edward
shares that
the people of Uganda are hungry for the Word of God.
In a personal
post-script to our church, he adds, "Thank you ever so
much for your prayers and financial support. We would
never manage
without
your assistance. Thank you for loving us. We love you too."
The Reverend
Micah Rwothumio is the National Director of Partners
in Evangelism - Uganda. This ministry began in 1994 with
a non-denominational indigenous evangelical church in
the heart of Kampala, Uganda.
Micah is involved in running seminars, identifying and
evaluating needs of pastors in rural areas, and working
with church plants
in the universities in Uganda. The ministry is involved
in training new leaders for ministry and countering Islam
with the Gospel
of Christ. Micah is a 1993 graduate of Moody
Bible Institute and lives in his native Uganda with
his family.
Jim Samland is
affiliated with the Eastern European Institute for Biblical
Studies, a ministry
established in 1995 by Campus
Crusade for Christ to address the need for Biblical
instruction in Eastern Europe. The fall of the "Iron Curtain" has
left a spiritual vacuum and a need for Biblical teaching.
Leaders with
the precious
combination of spirituality and adequate Biblical training
are too few, because for decades little such training was
permitted.
The
institute provides training for a predominantly national
staff and for leaders of established churches in Eastern
Europe. Jim,
his wife,
and their three children live in Budapest, Hungary.
